There, you’ll explore the original interiors — where prototype furnishings and decorative motifs, now exhibited at the Musée d’Orsay, were first conceived. You’ll hear the story of the château, its former residents, and perhaps even a few of its secrets…

Located in the village of Dienne (Cantal), at 1,100 meters above sea level, Château de la Cheyrelle is a 19th-century mountain manor, first built in 1858 on the site of a former medieval barn — where agricultural activity continued until the 1990s.
But it was between 1903 and 1905 that the château gained its distinctive architectural identity, thanks to the visionary renovations led by its owner Pierre Felgères (then mayor of Dienne and theatre director in Paris). He entrusted the expansion and complete redesign of the estate to his brother-in-law, René Dulong, and his associate, the celebrated Liège-born architect and decorator Gustave Serrurier-Bovy — one of the key figures of the Art Nouveau movement.
At La Cheyrelle, they applied with great freedom the avant-garde and visionary principles they defended at the time — ideas inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement, some of which continue to shape contemporary architecture today.
