Nature at its purest : welcome to Cantal

The Cantal Massif is the largest stratovolcano in Europe (spanning 2,700 km²). Nestled in the ancient glacial valley of the Santoire, La Cheyrelle sits at the very heart of this vast, wild landscape — a place where nature reigns and humbles.
Sometimes, all it takes is a pause and a look around to feel how small we are in the face of such immensity.

It’s not uncommon to spot a weasel darting through the meadow, squirrels leaping between the pines, red kites or vultures circling overhead, deer crossing the valley, or chamois climbing the cliffs of the Rocher de Laqueuille. And when night falls, the calls of foxes and the soft hooting of owls fill the air.

A naturalist recorded no fewer than 37 species of birds around the house alone. As for the flora, it’s equally rich — just look at the profusion of wildflowers that bloom in May, and the countless insects they attract.

Astronomy lovers will be delighted: on clear nights, the skies are so pure that the stars seem endless.
